August 2019

In August, we were back at the pool!
Sometimes I find photos on my phone that I did not take.
The diving board is a favorite!
The kids spotted a hot air balloon on our way home one day.
In early spring I signed the older boys up for a summer camp in August.  I asked Charlie if he was interested (he did it last year).  The only class he was interested in was a cake decorating class.  I told him we could just make cupcakes each day while the older boys were at camp if he wanted and he agreed.  Fast forward to August and I completely forgot that conversation, but Charlie did not.  As soon as we dropped Patrick at camp (Jack didn't end up going, he was invited to Michigan with a friend that week instead), Charlie turned to me and asked if we were going to make cupcakes now.  I couldn't say anything but YES!  He made these vanilla cupcakes from scratch.
Friends came to visit one afternoon and we played outside.
The adults had a chance to catch up as well.
More cupcake baking.
Lemon blueberry cupcakes.

Some of the kids came to my volleyball game one evening.  They had fun taking pictures while we played.
Maggie wrote both our names on our name tags.
One Saturday while Jim was at work, the kids and I rode bikes to the Farmer's Market and visited my good friend Sarah.

This was one of Maggie's last rides on her small bike.
We celebrated the life of my Godmother, Aunt Lucy, in mid-August.  Here are the remaining 9 siblings.
We hosted the 7th grade party in our backyard.  We showed the movie Back to the Future.  Not many kids actually watched the movie.
On the last day of summer, we had an adventure day.  It began with a trip to a favorite playground with rocket ships.
If it can be climbed...
...some or all of our kids will climb it!

Next we went to the park by our old house.  We played at the playground, ate a picnic lunch, and explored the park.

A tasty stop at Ted Drewes for dessert!
We saw the house where all three boys started their lives.
The tree we had planted before we moved.  It's still alive (and well)!
We visited Howard and Gloria, our alley neighbors.
First day of kindergarten and Maggie wants to be a doctor and a mom.

First day of 7th grade and Jack wants to be a computer programmer.

First day of 4th grade and Patrick wants to be a chess player.

First day of 2nd grade and Charlie wants to be an electrician.

Annual first day of school ice cream after dinner.
I'm pretty sure someone much younger than me took this picture.
Love this!
Jim's band played an adults-only party at the pool one evening.
Family bike ride with Maggie on her new bike.
Happy birthday, Nana!!!
