The 8th graders dressed as their confirmation saint for the Living Saint Museum. Patrick was St. Peter.
Jim and I went to New Orleans for Jazz Fest. We got 4-day passes and went for 3 of the 4 days.On Thursday, we saw The Rolling Stones. You can see Mick Jagger on the stage at the bottom left of this picture.
After the show, we hustled out. As we were exiting, there were a bunch of golf carts with sirens and then black cars going by and we were blocked from going forward. Jim caught on quickly and realized the band must be leaving. We were able to get a glimpse of Mick as he drove past us.
Last time we were at Jazz Fest, we walked to Blue Oak BBQ after the festival closed. It was delicious and so we decided to go again this time.
On Friday morning, we went to Molly's Rise and Shine for breakfast.
It was rainy that morning. You can see me in my yellow rain boots on the corner. After breakfast, we did a self-guided walking tour of the Garden District.
We found "Molly's House."
The sun came out and we went back to the fairgrounds for music.
That evening, we went to an 11pm show at Blue Nile. We saw Kermit Ruffins. It was late!
I took this picture of the Jazz Fest poster. We thought it was pretty cool.
We had lunch at Le Bon Temps Roule before hitting the festival day 3.
We ran into one of Jim's co-workers! Neither of them knew the other would be there!
It was May 4 and I saw Chewbacca walking down Bourbon Street. I thought it would be great to take his picture to send to the kids. Bad idea. This scary individual came after me and followed me several blocks. I should have known better.
That evening, we had tickets to see Better than Ezra at House of Blues. It was a fun show after we moved away from some unkind people.
While we were waiting to go into the House of Blues, the band showed up. Jim was able to high five Kevin Griffin on his way in.
The 8th grade musical was Beauty and the Beast. I was in charge of cookies for the cast party.
The 8th grade boys in costume:
Patrick played the role of Gaston.
They did a great job!
On Mother's Day, I requested a family bike ride.
We went to Paul and Margaret's for a Mother's Day dinner. It was nice to see my mom.
I also got to hang with my daughter.
The Rose Mass is a pretty special event for the 8th graders. They each present a teacher with a rose and a thank you note. Patrick presented me with his rose.
At the end of Mass, before they hand out the roses, the eighth graders gather at the front of church and sing.
My mom and I got to go to Maggie's presentation for her REACH class. She talked about the history of ice cream and had samples of homemade ice cream to give people. Yum!
On my birthday, my class gave me a math problem to solve. When I solved it, it read We <3 U. Cute!
On the final day of 8th grade, the students walk through the halls one last time.
I celebrated my birthday with my running group. We ran and had breakfast and then walked back. Perfect!
Charlie and I drove to Champaign for our friends' son's graduation party. We stayed a few hours and then drove home. We were in the car longer than we were at the party, but it was so good to see my good friends from college.
These brave souls joined me on my birthday ride this year. 47 miles.
I'm not entirely sure what I am doing here.
I had to stop when I saw this sign.
Maggie and I joined her troop for a Girl Scout night at the ballpark. We got to walk on the warning track before the game.
She cracks me up.
Eighth grade graduation:
Maggie sang in the choir at graduation.
We took a few pictures at home after the graduation.
We found a free night to go out to dinner to celebrate my birthday.
Charlie read at the all school Mass.Pool is OPEN for the summer!
Jim's band played at Paul's house. It was a beautiful day, but full of cicadas.
